White Barnes Law Degree Grant

  • Are you completing your HSC or International Baccalaureate at a Central Coast High School in 2010?
  • Are you planning on studying law full time in 2011 at a NSW university in either a straight law or combined degree?
  • Could you use a $2,500 grant in your first year to help with books, fees, materials, or whatever you wish to use it for?




If your answer to all three questions is "YES"*, then White Barnes Solicitors would like to hear from you.

We are a well established law firm with offices on the Central Coast as well as Sydney CBD and Parramatta and we are looking to contribute to our community by helping two new law students in 2011.

White Barnes is offering two $2,500 grants to first year law students at university in 2011. All you have to do is submit a 1,000 word essay on why you want to study law, and what you want to achieve with a career in the law.

Following independent assessment we will award grants to the writers of the two most compelling essays following their receipt of an offer of enrollment in law at a NSW university in 2011. You should submit your essay in either hard copy or soft copy format to:

Each essay must have a cover sheet detailing the applicant's full name, address, telephone number and email address if applicable.

Closing date for submissions of essays is 4:00pm, Friday 28th January 2011.

The award will be paid directly to the two students selected in three installments over 2011. The first installment of $1,000 will be paid in week one of the first semester of 2011, while the balance will be paid in two installments of $750 each on 1st June and 1st September respectively.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE WHITE BARNES LAW DEGREE GRANT
  • Have completed their Higher School Certificate at a Central Coast High School in the calendar year 2010.
  • Be successful in securing adm ission to either a straight law or a combined law university degree on a full time basis with a university in New South Wales and take up that position in 2011.
  • Be willing to agree to be identified by reference to name, school, the university which the Applicant will be attending together with photographical and video imaging, so that White Barnes may promote the Grant, including on the White Barnes website.
  • Given the grant will be paid in instalments, be able to provide evidence upon request of a continued successful participation in the university degree through year one.
  • Acknowledge that title/ownership of the essay passes to White Barnes and White Barnes are entitled to reproduce the essay in whole or in part in any way.
  • Ensure that at all times that the applicant's conduct including any words or actions does not cause White Barnes any embarrassment.
  • Produce such documentary evidence as White Barnes may reasonably require in order to ensure compliance with the conditions of the grant.
  • Accept the decision as to who is the successful receipient of the grant without any challenge noting the Judges decision will be final.
  • Submit their essay of a maximum of 1,000 words in either hard copy or soft copy formats, uncluding a cover sheet detailing the name of the applicant, their address, telephone number and email address if applicable by 4:00pm on Friday 28 January 2011.
